There’s a controversy in my office.
At the moment we have various products which incorporate the words LOVE and HATE. Some of the more sensitive members of the team think that HATE is too harsh. I disagree.

When I came up with this idea, I was thinking of Robert De Niro’s knuckles in Cape Fear. I was thinking about how love can turn into hate and how the fabulousness of LOVE only exists when you see it in context with the HATE in the world. In other words, HATE makes LOVE possible, it makes it more real and more incredible.

p.s. Diana Vreeland once said “Brigitte Bardot’s lips made Mick Jagger’s lips possible.”

So, anyway, when the sensitive operatives went all Thomas Kincade on me and said that we should only do canisters that say JOY and LOVE and bag the
HATE and ANGER, I told them that their
Thomas Kincadiness was freaking me out
and ’splained my thoughts on the issue
and, thank God, brought them around to
the dark side.
