Thrilled JA brought this back
"We love this dragon. We have a mix of vintage Asian furniture and this brings contemporary flair to our living room. We are so glad that JA brought the dragon back"
No matter what space you
"No matter what space you might be filling, there’s never not an opportunity to your style and sophistication with that unique piece of the Far East. But when that item of the orient meets, the modern touch of a new artist’s take on one of the singular most iconic figures in all of the rich history of the Asian people then you end up with a decor element that will set your room apart from the ordinary to the extraordinary. my love for interior design was nevermore exciting than the first time I saw my first Jonathan Adler piece on display at Barney’s in New York. The piece was from the menagerie collection and I couldn’t believe what I was holding in my hands was real. Such incredible lines with the, skillful use of minimalism, combined with the texture of the ceramic, both smooth and rough. Most of my house is a statement of transitionalism— that somewhat blurry line between the no-rules-barred contemporary design and the understated, yet timeless classicness of traditional furnishings. pardon my need to coin a phrase, but, “Enter the Dragon.” My bedroom is the room in my house that I call the sanctuary. Having to endure a lifelong illness, I found it necessary to have a room where I could remove myself to heal or in more current times to hide. nevertheless, whatever the reason, no room need not reflect the nature of the fire that lives within you. That’s what interior decorating is, an expression of the passion you have for life, nature, and the mind. The first time the ‘Dragon Objet’ was released. I was too ill to have even noticed it in my JA catalog. By the time I was recovered, this beautiful piece of art had been retired. Years later, I was told that I would need to take a lot of time off my feet and rest as much as possible. But being sick doesn’t mean you have to lay in a cold dark room with the drapes pulled shut. If anything, it’s just the opposite. You want to fill that space with as much vitality, strength, and rejuvenation as you can fit into one space. My Jonathan Adler collection is quite large—each piece carefully placed to accentuate the space it’s in and tell my guests a little bit about myself. In fact, I have two homes where I reside. Is in the northeastern part of the country and the other as far south as one can get without needing a passport. The cold and I are not on speaking terms, and have been that way for a very long time. So during the winter, I spend my time in my beautiful home without galoshes, down jackets, and an ice scraper for my windshield. No instead my windshield has my beach parking pass hanging in it. Why do I bring this up? In a review you might ask, the answer is quite simple. Jonathan Adler‘s collection of art is important to me to have to leave behind. So wherever I go to for an extended period of time, I’m sure to be surrounded by all of the cherished belongings, (not just things things) that defined me. And as I said, how better away to tell, the people who come to visit you who you are, then the environment you invite them into. However, in the case of the Dragon Objet, it was a much different scenario. This beautiful piece of craftsmanship and art with much expressionism as you can put into a piece—this was my totem, my stability, strength, and serenity. With watching the television or reading a great book when my mind wanders off to places unknown, I always know I can pull myself back by just glancing across the room at this modern take on an ancient force of power. This is how I keep myself sound, the way I let pain wash over me, as if I was made of marble and know that there’s a reason to fight to wake up tomorrow. Because one of those days is the day I receive my new Jonathan Adler catalog, and it will be a treasure just as great as the Dragon Objet! If you have not had the opportunity to actually be in the same room with this amazing sculpture, I highly recommend a trip to one of Jonathan Adler stores. When you look into those round eyes that are so simple, clean of a detail and pure craftsmanship; I promise you will be quite surprised. As in that moment you’ll witness the dragon is looking right back at you. Not to tell you the story of how it was made, but more extraordinary. It’ll tell you the story of how you were made. I know this was a very long and personal review, but I find in life. If you’re going to give someone a critique of their work, it should be filled with meaning, with reason, and most importantly, with as much passion as the artist put into the work himself, I hope you enjoy the pictures that I share with this review as it is as much of a picture of the artistry of Jonathan Adler’s ceramic sculptures, as it is an invitation into my home, sorry, homes, and my life. I think Jonathan Adler for bringing an ancient fire back from the past breathing it’s hot air into my room to fill my spirit with life with every breath I take. —David R"
